Lars Wouters van den Oudenweijer
Clarinettist Lars Wouters van den Oudenweijer (1977) studied with Charles Neidich at the Juilliard School for Music in New York, and with Walter Boeykens at the Conservatory in Rotterdam, where he graduated Cum Laude. He received first prize at various international competitions.
His 1999 debut was with a recital in the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. In the season 2001-2002, he very successfully performed in recitals as part of the Rising Stars Series in New York and major European concert venues. He has since then played with musicians such as: Maurice Bourgue, Charles Neidich, Emmanuel Pahud, Sergio Azzolini, Julian Rachlin, Janine Jansen, Vladimir Mendelssohn, Alexei Lubimov and Itamar Golan. In addition, he has performed with ensembles like: Altenberg Trio Wien, the Skampa, Auryn, and Ad Libitum string quartets, and Quartetto di Torino, Cleveland Quartet, Utrechts String Quartet and the Ebène Quartet. As a solist Lars has worked with the following conductors: Marc Soustrot, Michel Tabachnik, Hartmut Haenchen, Ed Spanjaard and Jurjen Hempel.
Especially for him, the Greek composer Theodorakis Abaziz wrote EURO, which was premiered in Carnegie Hall and given its first European performance in the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. In 2005 he performed the world premiere of Willem Jeths' clarinet concerto.
Lars is a frequent guest in a number of international festivals, such as Dobrovnik, Delft, Orlando, Tannery Pond (NY) and Musikfest Schloss Weinzierl.
In 2003 he received an Edison for his first CD in the category "Young Masters". The Naxos label published recordings of works by Ernst von Dohnànyi, Ernst Toch, John Harbison and Paul Hindemith. His CD with works by Max Reger under the label Challenge Records was also hailed by the press.
Lars is clarinet teacher at the Brabant Conservatory and is artistic leader of the "Toonfestival Brabant" which will be held for the third time in Den Bosch from 17 through 20 March 2011.
